Too hot!

It's so hot!  I mean ridiculous.

When the weather forecast calls for 100+ degrees each day it's hard to be excited about spending any time outside.

Unfortunately we all get too restless when we spend too much time inside...especially the four dogs!  So, when we do go out it's interesting to see what happens.

I recently decided I would do a little early morning reading outside on the lounge chairs before it was too hot.  When I got up to go grab some water, it was already 95 by 9am, I returned to find that the crew had made themselves comfy under the beach umbrella...taking in the shade.  All 4 of them.

Ever the athlete, Cedric, loves the pool.  When the temp spikes you know where to find him.

He uses it to cool down after a hard workout chasing the neighbors dog up and down the fenceline.

It's a hard life around here.

And for the actual humans that live here...
life's not too bad when this is the view you get to take in after a hot afternoon.

I hope you are staying cool, loves!

XOXO

In trouble...

I love animals especially dogs. Like love...
Josh and I don't have children so our dogs...and cows...and turkeys really are like children to us. We would have an absolute zoo if we didn't have real jobs, a monthly budget, and a homeowner's association.

Dogs have such a special place in my heart because they really are so genuine and so loving.  Dogs give until they can't give anymore.  They love you on your best day and on your worst.
How can you not love this face?

I bring all of this up because of how much trouble I get in for rescuing animals, especially dogs. When I see a stray or lost dog wandering down a long road, an actual physical pain in my chest occurs.  My heart starts hurting.  I have to pull over.  I always think of Cedric and Rose, my two pugs, and what would happen if they were lost and lonely and searching for home.  It scares me to death.

Now, I'll be honest, most of my dog 'rescues' have had funny endings.  Most of the wandering four-legged souls have actually been right where they were 'supposed' to be...or at least a few feet away.  You see I've 'rescued' most of the dogs from their own front yards.  It's rather funny actually.  There have been more dogs than I care to admit that have been out in their own yards (obviously yards without fences), snooping around, without an owner in sight (where are you people!?!) that find their way into my car...normally with a little coaxing.  Sometimes they have then ended up at my vet, getting checked out, and then returned back to their homes once I meet the owners while placing "Found" signs in the area.  Or there have been times when the dog has a collar and I call the number while standing right there a few feet away from the yard...only to have the owner open the door and come out and wave.  This didn't happen just once.  Let's leave it at that.

So, where does the real trouble come from?  Josh.  Josh has had enough of me calling him crying because I have just seen a lost dog and couldn't pull over due to the whole danger issue...either the dog looked very dangerous or I was in a dangerous location.  He's gotten tired of me calling and proclaiming that, "I have a chihuahua in my lap.  What do I do?"  He's told me more than once that if I bring another four-legged friend home, we already have 4 of our own, he will leave me.  And I'm pretty sure he's very serious.  Saturday we saw a little dog running up a street, looking happy and free, that put me into a crying fit.  We were pulling a very large trailer and could not stop.  We were in a residential neighborhood so Josh tried to reassure me that the dog was just out on a run...getting his fitness on.  I cried for the entire trip home.  Josh quietly patted my arm and shook his head.  I knew he was thinking...crazy, emotional, dog woman!

I know I'm a mess, a total mess.  Do you have a weakness like this?  Am I in this alone?  Am I just nuts?

XOXO (especially to my four legged friends)!

P.S. I may have learned my lesson on rescuing.  Tuesday night I spent over 3 hours trying to get a 'lost' neighbors dog back into her own yard.  A precious little Pomeranian was out loose in the street and was almost accidentally hit by a fellow neighbor.  I went out to save her and spent the next 3 hours trying to contact her owners, figure out what to do with her, get her back in her fence, and keep her in her fence!  Three hours...yep, lesson learned!  Probably.

Have you checked out Rifle Paper Co.?

Oh, you haven't?

Will you be mine?

My husband is not a fan of today.  And honestly, between you and me, I don't blame him.  I believe there is too much pressure on guys to make this one day a year 'special'.

In reality, everyday should be a day that you express love to the one that you love.

For me it's the day to day stuff that says I love you and it doesn't have to be a big production...just a simple note, text message, cup of coffee, kind word, or kiss on the forehead makes me incredibly happy.  Luckily I have found an amazing man that does/shows all of these things.  Mushy, I know...

However, I can't lie...the chocolates, brownies, candies, cookies, and flowers are definitely a perk on this #1 Hallmark card selling day.  It's not like I would turn them down or anything...let's be real!

Any of these little treats would certainly say I love you...

But, I'm not expecting them.

In fact, just the cup of coffee would be perfect for this Valentine's morning.

Ok, ok maybe in one of these would make it just a little more special...

All of this sweetness had to be shared on this very sweet day...but, it really doesn't get any sweeter than this.

Pug...with a heart!  I know.  I'm in love too.

Happy Valentine's my loves!

XOXO

Staying warm...

Thresca

Ohhhh, December...you've been quite the mess!
Deadlines, appointments, and medical tests!
If you could please just slow down and allow us to pause,
we want to celebrate the baby Jesus and Mr. Claus.
We've put up our tree and wrapped it with lights,
it's warmed our hearts and made our house bright.
I haven't bought presents, really haven't started the list...
I've got to get going so that no one is missed.
Please stop rushing, December.  You're important to me.
I want to celebrate you fully before it's January!

Picky pugs...

This week has been particularly draining. I'm very ready to sit outside with Josh and take in the crisp fall air. TGIF!

On a side note:

Cedric and Rose are very busy this weekend getting ready for Halloween. As they have aged, now reaching 8 and 7 years old respectively, they have become bored with the drab everyday dog costumes that so many of their friends sport. This year they wanted a distinguished and classic look.

Cedric is trying to decide between an English gentleman...

Or an accountant from Savannah, Georgia...he's working on both of his accents.

Rose, well she is getting back to the classics and wants to be Dorothy...

We'll just have to see what they end up sporting. Who knows!?! Picky, picky, picky!

No, these are not actually Cedric and Rose...
these are the very talented pugs from Rover Dog on Etsy.com. So cute!

Hug a pug...

It's a Monday. And definitely a Monday back after being gone on a mini-vacation. I'm exhausted and already have started counting the minutes until the weekend.

Until I'm caught up on laundry and emails here's a little pug love for you.

Can't remember where I found this photo. Sorry loves! If you know, let me know!

These guys definitely make all Mondays better.

Pug love...

We have two new additions, of the four legged kind, at our house...Cedric and Rose.

Cedric and Rose are my pugs from a previous life. They have been living with my mom for the past few years but have recently needed to relocate. Cedric's life had become too stressful in the city so he and Rose decided to pack up and move to the country. Retirement has finally come and they are ready for a slower lifestyle...more porch time, squirrel chasing, and naps...lots of naps.

Meet Cedric...aka "The Wonder Pug!"

He received this name after costing me thousands of dollars in vet bills for his amazing ability to open doors and get into trash containers...requiring some stomach surgery...and baby proof/dog proof latches on everything.

Cedric's very focused and serious face...

Typical Wednesday night...kicking it, butt in the air, with a bone.

Meet Rose...my precious little girl and Cedric's full time shadow.

Rose

Showing off one of her many talents.

Not her most slimming angle. Don't judge.

Going from a 2 dog house to a 4 dog house has taken some coordination, some patience, and some sweeping...lots of pug and lab hair.

The pugs are now on a strict diet and are eager to get out and roam the countryside with their sisters. However, their sisters are struggling a little bit with the transition. They aren't quite sure why we had to go and ruin a good thing by adding more babies to the house. Katie is especially hurt and annoyed. She's coming around though. Slowly but surely.

She maintains this face right now...I think she's praying that they leave.

"Please, God, take these aliens away. Amen."

Josh and I are outnumbered right now. We have taken to a zone defense with this crew.

Pray for us.

xoxo
